We recommend industrial training as a shoemaker, as this already teaches the basics of industrial shoemaking and prepares you specifically for attending the German Shoe College. Alternatively, we also accept training as a shoemaker, orthopaedic shoemaker, shoe and leather goods stepper or leather processing specialist.

Yes, but in this case a 12-month internship or employment in a shoe manufacturing company must be completed before attending school.

As these training occupations are related but not relevant, a 12-month internship at a shoe manufacturer (industry or trade) must be completed before attending school.

Although training as a tailor has many similarities to leather processing professions, it is not relevant. A one-year internship/employment with a shoe manufacturer helps to compensate for the lack of shoe knowledge.

During your training, you will have gained a lot of knowledge about the organization of a shoe company/shoe retailer. The aim of an internship is to acquire practical knowledge of shoe production. The duration of the internship is at least 3 months. Please ask at the shoe school for a consultation appointment.

A fashion design degree that has laid the foundations in pattern construction and production technology can be partially recognized as relevant. Depending on previous knowledge, an internship in shoe production of approx. 12 months is necessary.

In principle, the internship can be completed in any shoe company or shoe factory or with a shoemaker in Germany or abroad. We are also happy to help you arrange such an internship.

Although drawing can be learned to a certain extent. The training program at the German Shoe School does not only consist of design subjects.

The course at the German Shoe School comprises between 30-35 hours per week in 40 weeks per year. In addition, there are extensive project tasks that require up to 10 hours of work per week. This roughly corresponds to the working hours of a full-time employee. Apart from a mini-job, there is not much time left to work.

With a degree as a “State-certified shoe technician”, all opportunities are open to you. Our graduates are sought-after specialists at home and abroad. However, you should consider the possibility of international employment from the outset.

This question is not easy to answer. It depends entirely on your personal commitment – even during your training – which position and which earning potential you achieve.

German and international fashion, shoe and accessory labels employ our graduates, as do companies in the supplier industry and retail. There is no German company in which our shoe technicians are not to be found in top positions. DSF graduates can be found on all continents with the big names in the international shoe business.

You are not only allowed to – you should! Only if you use every free minute to implement your own ideas can you really become a specialist!
